As you may have heard, cheese is a pretty big deal in Wisconsin! Dairy farms are prevalent in the rolling farmlands of central Wisconsin, including the towns neighboring the Town of Plover. A delectable dairy treat is just a short drive away from Plover at Feltz’s Dairy Store and Feltz Family Farms in Stevens Point. Feltz Family Farms is a fifth-generation dairy farm, owned and operated by Ken and Jackie Feltz since 1995. Ken and Jackie’s children will carry the farm and dairy store into the sixth generation. While the farm has grown green beans, sweet corn, and peas through the years, the focus since 1995 has been on dairy cattle. The operation has seen several phases of improvements and is now a high-tech facility, with two robots that milk 100 cows! The use of robots enables the frequency of milking to be determined by the cows.
In 2017, Feltz’s Dairy Store opened to the public. This store offers a wide range high-quality items: diverse Wisconsin cheeses, a variety of flavors of local King Cone ice cream, Black Angus beef raised on Feltz Family Farms, Nueske’s award-winning bacon, glass bottles and plastic containers of white and chocolate milk, Wisconsin wines, coffee, fine chocolates, honey, baked goods, Feltz’s Farm’s cow’s milk soaps, seasonal gift boxes featuring gourmet treats, and more!. Viewing windows allow shoppers and visitors to see cows being milked by the robots while indulging in a refreshing ice cream cone or fresh cheese curds. You can learn even more about agriculture and Feltz Family Farms in the education corner.
