Combine nature’s beauty, intriguing places to explore, and mouthwatering dining with this small-town getaway! The Plover area makes a perfect weekend getaway for older adults looking for new experiences without the hustle and bustle of large cities.

Centrally located in Wisconsin, Plover is an easy day’s drive from anywhere in the Midwest. After a great night’s sleep at one of the area’s comfortable lodging options, start your day with a light breakfast at Mission Coffee House or heartier fare at restaurants like the Paradise Restaurant or the Four-Star Family Restaurant.

Historical Visits

Spend some time at the Wisconsin Korean War Memorial at Lake Pacawa Park. The memorial was created by a group of Wisconsin Korean War Veterans in the late 1980’s and construction was completed in 2009. It was designed with great thoughtfulness. The Memorial consists of five larger-than-life figures. A nurse leads the group, followed by Army and Marine Infantryman, then an Air Force Pilot and a Sailor. The nurse leads the group because with the bravery of the medics, many would not have returned from battle.

Next, roll the clocks back and see what life was like between 1870 and 1910 with a visit to the Portage County Historical Society’s Heritage Park. The park features 11 historical structures from Portage County that have been moved to park over the years. The Portage County Historical Society rotates exhibits, which deeper explore life in Portage County, and by extension, much of Wisconsin.

Pro Tip: Plan your visit around Heritage Days and enjoy a two-day festival with food, music and real people reenacting activities that would be common from 1870 to 1910.

Active Visits

The Plover area offers dozens of walking and biking trails and miles of the Wisconsin and Plover Rivers. For those hoping to be more active, check out Standing Rocks County Park year round. In the Summer and Fall, enjoy walking or biking. When snow is available, the park has many snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails and even some downhill skiing hills. There are two beginner hills, one intermediate hill, and two expert hills at the park. The park offers equipment rentals to those who may not have their own.

Finish your day with an amazing dinner for any appetite! Whether you prefer pizzas, burgers, Mexican cuisine, steaks, or anything else, Plover has you covered! Check the dining listings page to easily locate all the options!
