Experience a hidden gem of the Midwest and exceptional mountain bike trails at Standing Rocks County Park by competing in the second annual Standing Rocks Enduro.
The Standing Rocks Enduro is Wisconsin’s first and only enduro-style competition.
Held the third Saturday of August, the Standing Rocks Enduro is a 4-, 6-, or 8-run competition open to youth, beginners and advanced riders.
“This is a great first-time enduro for people wanting to get into the sport,” event planner Scott Cole said.
An enduro is a timed mountain biking event with multiple stages or runs. Riders start in 30-second intervals rather than all at one time. Each run lasts one to two minutes. The lowest time of all combined stages for each division wins.
“The Sport level is for more experienced riders,” Cole said. “Beginners are welcome, and all runs are rollable. The stages aren’t necessarily the same trails that are always out there. We have a lot of riders who visit Standing Rocks regularly, so we wanted to make it challenging for them as well.”
Trails range in difficulty from green to double black.
Mountain biking trails were first introduced at Standing Rocks County Park in 2003 by the Point Area Single Trails Association, and the group continues to make improvements to the trails. Cole said the Standing Rocks Enduro helps PASTA raise money to maintain the trails.
The 2023 Standing Rocks Enduro brought in 160 riders from across 5 states. There was a mix of skill levels among the competitors, and Cole expects an even larger event this year.
“August is a downtime for mountain biking in the Midwest, so we thought it was a great time to host an event,” Cole said.
The Enduro also offers an opportunity for spectators to learn by watching, he said.
Some spectators brought bikes last year to ride from stage to stage, while others walked. Standing Rocks County Park spans 450 acres, and Cole said he recommends that spectators are prepared to hike or bike.
“It’s a laid-back event with just a bunch of people having a good time,” Cole said. “Enduro is all about fun.”
